Where/When is Volume 2?
I am currently working on it, or trying to. Life has been getting in the way. Unlike Netflix I have neither the time nor resources to drop an entire series in one go, so I’m afraid you’ll have to wait. At present I am writing the scripts for all remaining volumes (there will be four total) so that I can be sure the story machinery is working; I don’t know how long that will take me, but when I have finished, it should take about 2.5 years to draw and colour Volume 2. I know, it’s a long time. That’s how long Volume 1 took. I think you would like Vol.2 to maintain the same standard of quality, so I’m not going to rush it. If you want to hurry things up a little you can sign up to my Patreon, because if I earn enough I can hire someone to help with colouring. A nice side benefit is that you won’t have to wait so long to see Volume 2, because you can watch it getting made.
Are you going to do Shackleton next?
No. Shackleton (by which I assume you mean the Endurance story) has six graphic novels already. I’m sure his ego doesn’t need my help. If you want a graphic novel about the Ross Sea Party, or Nimrod or Quest, well … be the change you want to see in the world. I’m just hoping to finish Terra Nova before I die.
I am in [Country X], how do I get your book?
A regularly updated list of vendors and regional availability is maintained here. TL;DR: it is easy to get a copy in the following countries:
- United Kingdom
- Germany (in a lovely album-sized German translation)
- Ireland (English)
- Norway (English and German)
- New Zealand (English)
- see page for links and details: https://worstjourney.com/2022/12/17/the-second-run-is-here/
A US edition will be released by Iron Circus in September 2024. This should also cover Canada.
If you live in none of these places, your best bet is to get in contact with my lovely publisher, Indie Novella, or try ordering it from one of the shops on the shops page. Even if they don’t list your country on their shipping options, you may be able to work something out with them, so don’t be shy about emailing.
If you are, or know of, a publisher/distributor who serves Australia and New Zealand, and would like to license the book, I would love to hear from you!
If you are in a European country which is not Germany and want the book in your language, please contact your local division of Panini to say so. It helps them to get an idea of interest!
I run a bookshop in the uk and I don’t see your book available from our distributors. How do we stock it?
Worst Journey can be ordered from Central Books Ltd and is represented by Signature Book Representation. The ISBN is 9781739959937, if that helps. Please let me know when you stock it, so I can add you to the list and give you a shout-out on social media!
Why does Germany get a big, lush, hardcover edition and the English language one is so dinky?
Because Europeans will pay €32 for a gorgeous lap-sized comic book and the Anglosphere won’t. I asked about getting the English edition printed one size up, and the price would have doubled. Having grown up not being able to afford nice art books, I thought (and still think) it’s better to keep it as accessible as possible to as many people as possible, and at present that means small and paperback. Maybe someday, if it’s a big hit, there’ll be a special deluxe edition, but while it’s a niche thing it needs to have a small overhead. Except in Europe, apparently.
